There are many buildings on the south side of highway 299 still standing, some walls have slowly been falling down. Some of the buildings have had restoration and there are still those that are in need of repair or close to ruins, on some of the buildings you can see old iron hinges remaining where the doors and windows were, many of the buildings no longer have the roof structures or roofs for that matter.
There use to be a museum in the town, but due to government closures this one is no longer, but it is known that Old Shasta was a check point or stop for the many hundreds of mule trains over night supplying the team and the travelers that once went through the area up from the valleys of Sacramento. When the railroad took over transportation, the old mule wagons stopped coming in droves, the town slowly started becoming a stop for the mule trains around the area of the last eighteen hundreds. During the highlight of the town is was a bustling city in northern california and was also the county seat.
