Round Mountain, California is a very small rural mountain unincorporated community along highway 299 East of Redding, CA. Many land owners are organic farmers, and Round Mountain is the center of the "Pit River" tribe which is a very strong force which opposes federal control. Even thou a very large electrical substation has been located in the vicinity, there still are a lot of single family homes living off the grid with no utilities.
Round Mountain has endured some major forest fires, the latest Fire was the Fountain Fire, which destroyed many properties and buildings, and several of the buildings over the years have been destroyed in landslides and many are in constant repairing foundations due to the un stability of the area due to erosion caused by the fires and the utility power lines. Many outdoor enthusiast like mountain climbers, hikers, fisherman really find the opportunity to experience the wild side of Round Mountain.
The main highway 299 has been greatly improved and the trip to Round mountain is a very easy drive from the county seat of Redding, CA.

The fire burned 64,000 acres, plus 600 structures in the small towns of Round Mountain and Montgomery Creek, Some of the Local people said smoke from the fire looked like a fire storm as far away as Redding, Many volunteers helped from all over the country to extinguish the fire and save peoples properties.
