Whiskeytown, California Located within Trinity and Shasta County and is small unincorporated community which is now under water which was flooded for Whiskeytown Lake in 1962. Original the town was a very busy mining town, today very few people live in Whiskeytown which is now part of French Gulch, California. And before the flooding the town the main store was moved to higher ground in the year of 1962. Later the store was close after forty plus years. Only the store and a few old homes which are now occupied by Recreational employees, there are some of the old mines located above the new lake. Whiskeytown was visited by John F Kennedy and a sign tells of his visit to Trinity County. Very few people occupy Whiskeytown area.
Whiskeytown lake occupies almost thirty two thousand acres and has over thirty six miles of shoreline, This is a great lake to ski, swim or day camp.
